Report for the Ecommerce Week, 10 th to 14 th December, 2018, Nairobi, Kenya Taiwo Akinremi Peter ACSIS West Africa Regional Coordinator compsoftnet@gmail.com President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya graced the Africa eCommerce Week as he officially delivered a heartfelt speech of commitment toward digital Africa. The president reminded the meeting of his government been in the frontline of enhancing digital service delivery that reduces cost and time of access to government services. Mr. Kenyatta said that the birth of M-Pesa mobile payment has put the country on the global digital map. He called for a balance between innovation and regulation where there is collaboration between e-commerce stakeholders. He further said that manufacturing sector must be digitized to support new business models for sustainability. ACSIS ECMAA AWARDS 2018

Dakar – Nairobi – Geneva 14/12/2018 As part of the Africa Ecommerce weekend 2018 held in Nairobi from 10 to 14 December 2018, the African Civil Society on the Company of the largest pan-African network ICT Information organized the first contest of mobile e-commerce applications (ECMAA Awards). According to the president of ACSIS, Dr. Cissé Kane, the competition aimed to stimulate creativity and innovation among young talents, students, young graduates of our continent (and its diaspora) and promote solutions for new job opportunities through the development of e-commerce mobile application. 50 applications from 15 African countries were registered. Day One report of the Ecommerce Week

Day one of the eCommerce week, Nairobi The eCommerce week started with a high level meeting that has the representation of UNCTAD Secretary General, UNON, international organization, Private sector, Business, Academia and Civil Society. On the front burners were the issues of cross border trade between the African countries and the international market, mobile payment, mobile connectivity, accessibility, taxes, awareness, trust, capacity building, cost of devices and data. It was noted that business model must evolve as the digital space evolved. Ideation must come with sustainable business models to get the needed support. Women should not be given access, but must be part of access processes. Civil society must intensify their efforts and pressure to ensure implementation of strategic digital policy implementation by the necessary stakeholders. SESSION REPORT ON DIGITAL INCLUSION IN AFRICA AS THE MOST IMPORTANT RIGHT DURING THE INTERNET FREEDOM FORUM, 2018 IN ABUJA BY AKINREMI PETER TAIWO, ACSIS WEST COORDINATOR.

The session seeks to identify the barriers to greater digital inclusion and recommend ways of overcoming these obstacles towards empowering Africans with the transforming power of ICTs. Tope Ogundipe, the Director of Programs with Paradigm Initiative moderated the session. She reflected on the 21% internet penetration in Africa, a figure that reflects the underdevelopment on a continent with a population of around 1.2billion. On the panel were Chioma Agwuegbo from CC Consulting Services (Nigeria), Akinremi Peter Taiwo, a West Africa Coordinator of African Civil Society (Nigeria), Olajumoke Adekeye, a statistician (Nigeria) and Poncelet Ileleji from The Gambia. Chioma, the first speaker listed three key factors that must be met before access would become a priority for the human kind which are Food, Shelter and Clothing. How does good cybersecurity contribute to the growth of and trust in ICTs and Internet Technologies, and their ability to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)? The rapid growth and adoption of ICTs as a key driver of the economic development would be jeopardized if measures to protect connected devices and user generated data is absent. The fear of data compromising, information theft, privacy intrusion, surveillance, unreliable software programs and applications would not allow those unconnected billion people to fully rely on the use of the internet and its related technologies therefore distant the realization of sustainable development goals. The emergency of internet, penetration and its usage was given highest consideration with less attention to its security issues. 9 TH WEST AFRICAN INTERNET GOVERNANCE FORUM, JULY 27 TH AND 28 TH , 2017, COTONOU, BENIN: Digital security for socioeconomic   development and peace in West Africa The 9 th West African Internet Governance Forum was held at Golden Tulip diplomat in Cotonou, Benin. The two (2) day event attracted stakeholders across the nations for dialog on digital security for socioeconomic development. The event recorded 418 participants with full house at the closing session The conference was opened by stakeholders with beautiful welcome addresses. But the opening remarks were made by the Minister for Ministry of Digital Economy and Commission (MENC), Benin.
